The center of cultural and political life of the Greek city of Patras is undoubtedly the Georgiou I square, named in honor of the second king of Greece (1863-1913.). The square is located in the heart of the city and is one of the most popular places among the city residents and its guests.

The theatre building was constructed by the famous German architect Ernst Ziller, designed and also the famous national theatre of Greece in Athens. Apollo built in the typical for the 19th century neoclassical style. It is one of only three well-preserved theatres of Greece made in the neoclassical style.
The "Apollo" theatre since its inception, has always played an important role in the cultural and public life of the city.
