In the Andes, in the Western part of the national Park Vicente Perez Rosales, about 30 km North-East of Osorno volcano, is a volcano, whose cuts a sharp silhouette in the blue sky, like a needle that pierces the clouds, is the volcano of Puntiagudo.

His height - 2498 m. First ascent on him made two climbers, Swiss and Chilean researchers, Herman Roth and Rudolf Hess in 1937. The latter died during the descent during this climb. Since it was made only a few successful ascents to the summit of the volcano Puntiagudo and it is quite a feat, as this volcano is considered one of the most difficult peaks of Chile.

His only historically recorded eruption occurred in 1850, there was only the emission of volcanic ash. Currently, the national service of Geology and mining of Chile does not produce permanent control over the activity of the volcano Puntiagudo. Experts say that the activity of the volcano Puntiagudo poses no risk in the short term, and it is classified as a volcano, dormant or extinct – extinct volcano.

Vegetation surrounding the volcano's slopes, Puntiagudo, consists of evergreen forests, olivillo, Tepa, fragrant cinnamon, Ulmo, pitri and other types of plants - shrubs, ferns and vines. As regards fauna, here you can find skunks, La kuronue, foxes and birds such as hummingbirds, carpenter and black Harrier.

The climate at the foot of the volcano Puntiagudo characterized by a high temperature without thermal fluctuations and precipitation during the year. If you plan to climb higher, it is advisable to bring warm clothing and outfits.

To climb to the top of the volcano, Puntiagudo - there are two ways. The first begins in the valley, the second originates in the South-East of lake Rupanco. Both routes require mountaineering skills, therefore, are not suitable for all tourists.
