Art gallery "Iliya Beshkov" was opened in 1958 on the initiative of Pleven artists as a branch of the Historical Museum. Is specially built in 1978, building on the Boulevard Skobelev.
The permanent exhibition of the art gallery "Iliya Beshkov" gives an idea about the main stages and trends in the development of Bulgarian art from the end of XIX century until the 70-ies of the XX century. Since the liberation from Ottoman rule and the names of such pioneers of painting of Bulgaria as Nicholas and Anton Mitov, visitors can observe the work of famous Bulgarian painters: Stefan Ivanov, Sirak Skitnik, Vladimir Dimitrov-the master, Dechko Uzunov, Vasil barakova, Banco Obreshkova, Ilia Petrov, Ninco Balkanski, of Stoyan Venev, Cyril coneva, Boris Ivanov, Kirill Petrov, Vera Nedkova, the Warblers Genevay, Ivan Nenova, Found Petkov. Not left without attention and recognizable names of leaders of the modern Bulgarian art. Particularly in this elegant ensemble of authors it should be noted sculptors Ivan Lazarov, Peter and Marko Balabanov Markov. Also in this art gallery you can find the legacy of one of the most famous Pleven authors, sculptor angel Spassov (1884-1974), whose work is here presented in the most complete.
But the most important name, without mentioning which the conversation about this gallery could not be considered complete, is the name of the great Bulgarian artist Elijah Beshkov. A series of magnificent creations, presented here, gives visitors the opportunity to fully enjoy his paintings and graphics, to see the most striking and characteristic features of creativity. Brilliant improvisation in the figure and the enduring thematic relevance of the works of this great master is to prove the validity of his assessment as one of the best Bulgarian artists of the twentieth century. Today, the gallery houses more than 1200 works of Elijah Beshkov.
The appearance of the gallery is determined not only permanent exhibitions. On a total area of 2500 sqm regularly hosts a variety of activities: National Biennale of small forms of fine art, International Biennale "Fodor", "Night gallery", art galleries, chamber concerts, conferences and symposia.
