The salt Museum is unique in its kind in Bulgaria and throughout Eastern Europe. He appeared in the town of Pomorie, which is located North-East of Bourgas. The Museum was opened in September 2002, it presents the process of salt production by evaporation of sea water in the sun. This method is also called the "ancient Angielski technology" ("Anhialo" – colony in Greece, near Pomorie).
In this area salt production is one of the main crafts that fed many a century of local residents. According to historical data, Pomeranian salterns acted even before the Foundation of the city (V century BC). In ancient times, salt was considered a truly valuable and rare product. Second name salt - the "white gold".
Pomeranian salt Museum is a specialized Museum, located under the open sky. Here you can see many interesting things in the building, and in addition, to consider extending to two hectares operates to this day salt works.
Salterns is a large number of basins, which are separated from each other by dams, built of earth and wood. Here the salt is mined by the same method, as it had been many centuries ago.
The exposition of the salt Museum presents visitors with the history of ancient techniques of salt mining. Also shown is a large collection of photos that date back to the early twentieth century, and copies of historical documents of the XV – XIX century, among them also a lot to learn about salt production, trade her in the lands of Bulgaria. Among the most interesting exhibits of the Museum are the original tools of those who extract salt: different wooden cars, rowed, etc.
Guests can watch movies about the process of salt production. Local lake, near which are the salt works and Museum, recognized as a protected area. In the Pomorie lake, there are over 200 species of birds.
The salterns are equipped with special cameras, with which the behaviour of birds being monitored, and guests have the opportunity to watch them on screens in the Museum. In addition, it is possible to acquire various information brochures and Souvenirs.
