Mountain Mashuk in Pyatigorsk is a symbol and main attraction of the city.

Like the other sixteen mountains-laccolites region of KMV, Mashuk was formed by volcanic activity, by lifting through the thickness of the sediment, the cooling of lava. In addition, in the formation of this mountain was featured and mineral water sources that originate in the nucleus. Water coming to the surface, under the influence of the sun completely evaporated, leaving only the salt that permeated all the leaves and grass, turning them eventually into hard rock.

The people there are several legends about the name of the mountain. One of them says that the mountain was named in honor of the girl Masuko, crying about the groom Tau killed the old MT. According to another version, the name of Horus has received from Kabardian words "mash - millet, and "Ko" is a valley, since most of the inhabitants of this region were engaged in agriculture.

Mount Mashuk very often called the "giver of healing waters", and it's not just. On its small territory was found five types of mineral water springs.

At the Mashuk were discovered archaeological sites from different eras, starting from the 4th century BC to the present. The main attractions of the mountain: a natural shaft–cave Pyatigorsk failure with an underground lake, rock portrait of V. I. Lenin monument on the spot where he was killed in a duel by M. Y. Lermontov, old cemetery-necropolis, the Church of St. Lawrence, the military memorial cemetery. In 1901 on the mountain has installed a sculpture of an eagle, which holds in his powerful talons snake.

On top of the mountain are the most prominent attraction of Mashuk – television tower, built in 1958, and a commemorative obelisk in honor of military topographer A. V. Pastukhov. In 1971, it reopened as a high-speed cable car.
