Bright period of prosperity of the Riga old believers was the end of the 18th century. By the 19th century, the old believers had 3 prayer houses, the chief of which was the "Moscow house of worship on the banks of the Daugava river (now a house Grebenshikov). Originally a house of worship is situated on the Bank of the Daugava (Western Dvina), although now it is quite far from it.

1760 is considered the year of Foundation of the temple. Originally, the temple was in a wooden shed. The owner of this building initially was a merchant of the first Guild Sava deacons, and then a merchant of the second Guild Gavrila Panin. In 1793 the parish of old believers of Riga bought from Panin building of the temple. Later the building was rebuilt in 1798 appeared a brick building. In honor of the merchant Grebenshchikov Church was named in 1826.

The Grebenshchikov Church is a historical and cultural monument. It has a large hall with iconostasis for prayers, ceremonial halls, facilities management, apartment priests and Ministers of the Church. The chapel belongs to a rich collection of books, paintings and manuscripts from the 15th to 19th centuries.

In the frame of the old believers behalf Grebenshchikov has a parish. Already in the sixties of the 18th century, the parish was a shelter for the poor. In 2000 in the Latvian capital was held a conference devoted to the 240 anniversary of the existence of the Mission house of the Riga Grebenshchikov community. After the conference there is a new tradition of holding charges about the anniversaries of the Church and parish. In honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the community name Grebenshikov has published a wonderful book and photo album in 4 languages.

In Soviet times the building of a house of worship name Grebenshchikov there were apartments of local residents. Currently, the parish name Grebenshchikov is the largest old believer parish in the world. The composition includes about 25 thousand believers. The divine services are held according to old traditions, old songs are sung.
