The national Park "Samarskaya Luka" is located on the territory of Syzran, Volga and Stavropol administrative districts, the Eastern part of the Zhiguli hills and has a total area of 120 thousand hectares. Formed in 1984 in order to preserve the natural and historical complex, the national Park of the Northern part is adjacent to the Zhiguli state natural reserve and limited to the natural boundaries of the bend of the Volga river.
Samarskaya Luka is a unique area with unique landforms, flora and fauna, unique microclimate and the amazing beauty of ancient forests. Natural attractions include the legendary valiant mound reaching a height of over 200 meters (near Usinsk Bay), Camel mountain with bizarre rocky top (next to Shiryaevo village), Maiden mountain and Shelehmetskie mountains with caves and picturesque Hanging Rock. A Holy place in the Park is considered to be the source of the Stone bowl, located at the foot of the mountains, forming a Cup-shaped extension Shiryaevo of the ravine. From archaeological sites of special interest Murom town (the largest settlement of the Volga Bulgaria 9-13 centuries), as well as the ancient settlement of the bronze and iron ages on the mountains: White, Bald, and the Specific Visa.
