On the street the 2nd mill, 61 city Shuya is a beautiful temple, consecrated in honor of the Transfiguration in 1836. It is known that before the 17th century Mill village belonged to the demesne of the Russian princes by name Shuisky, and in the 19th century became the residence of Decembrist Szymanowski N. In. Today this village is a full-fledged part of the city. Near the temple is a Holy spring of St. Nicholas.
One notable feature of the Church is its location, of ancient origin, the decoration and even modern history. The composition of the Church complex includes a temple, a gatehouse and a small rural cemetery located on a beautiful hillside, which encircle the river Motovilikha and Seha. In continuation of the 17th century on these rivers mill was located, and, thanks to the mills, the village got its name. The height of the hill was quite small, but the General background of the territories of the Church of our Saviour was perfectly visible even from the Northern entrance to the city of Shuya, namely Aspen mountain roads from the Introduction, Ivanova and Danilova.
After he passed the Great Patriotic war, in Shuya Church life occurred many important events associated solely with the Transfiguration Church. In 30-ies the Church was closed, but in the 40 years he was again opened. When the Church has not acted, the building was used as a warehouse and a small workshop. Since the late 40's and ending in the 90-ties of the temple was the only active one out of all available in Shuya. After the temple was closed, were lost important ecclesiastical objects and values that only some part compensated through collected from local residents donations, because with their help managed to bring an important Church books and icons.
In the temple of the visible features of late classicism and traditional pseudo-Russian style. The construction of the Church was carried out in several stages when trying Shuya merchants. The construction of the current Church lasted for several decades, after all, was originally built a wooden Church that occurred in 1711; then built a temple in honour of the Holy Apostle James with a small bell tower in 1822, and then this temple was turned into stone, while at the warm end was a chapel of the Transfiguration in 1869. Judging by the preserved information, the construction of the temple was conducted from West to East, following from the bell tower and up to the altar. The name of the Church was constantly changing the headship of any throne, so in times past it was known as the Transfiguration, then Nicholas. Today, the Church is again the name of the Transfiguration, which is reflected on the North wall and in the diocesan documentation. Before 90-ies was opened Transfiguration Cathedral, the Church was conciliar.
Documentary information about the appearance of the Church was never found. Known local historian V. Borisov believed that the temple was constructed during the reign of Ivan the terrible. It is assumed that the Church of the Transfiguration was originally a house at the house of Shuisky, who were the owners of the village until the early 16th century. Of most interest are descriptions of some tombstones princesses, which you can see only half of the lost inscriptions belonging to the genus passage, located in the churchyard in the 19th century.
If you take into consideration all interesting information about the Church of the Transfiguration, the most important is the mention of the so-called underground passages, which could be directly related to the period of invasion of the Polish-Lithuanian forces, but it is unlikely that their total length was so long.
Among the important attractions is the old icon, famous for its miraculous properties, which depicts the Wonderworker and St. Nicholas – this icon was previously placed in the mill Church. Numerous guests always visited this icon, which was saved from many troubles and diseases.
