Solovetsky Transfiguration monastery is located on the Solovetsky island, White sea, is located 60 km from the town of Kemi, 300 km from Arkhangelsk. Existed since the 15th century. In the monastery there are three beautiful Cathedral. The Transfiguration Cathedral was laid by Abbot Philip in 1558, 1566, was consecrated. Has a chapel on the South side and four small churches located under the corner domes of the temple. The walls are painted with artistic painting. The Cathedral is a magnificent five-tier iconostasis, which was built in 1697 by Peter the Great commandment, to its own funds. Trinity Zosim-Savvatievo Cathedral was built in 1859. Has two aisles. Here is the main Shrine of the monastery — the relics of Saint Savvaty and Zosima, who are buried in a special cancer for each and are located in the side of their name.

Under the Cathedral downstairs built a Church in honor of St. Herman with his relics, defined under a bushel, here and joins the third Cathedral of the assumption, with a huge common dining hall. The assumption Cathedral was consecrated in 1557 by Saint Philip. Over its arches – two small temples, and under the refectory is the Church of the Nativity of the virgin. The Church of St. Nicholas is placed between Ouspensky and Transfiguration Cathedral. In connection with the Church of St. Nicholas stands the bell tower, which was built in 1777, its height is 27 yards. All the temples are connected by a long stone corridor to facilitate the transition from one Church to another without any hindrance.

In separate buildings is the Church of St. Philip, having in their vaults Znamensky chapel, and the Church of the Annunciation, built over the Holy gates. In the Annunciation Church there is a carved wooden iconostasis, which is a remarkable monument carving of the 17th century. Also in the monastery are three chapels. Chapel in the name of the monk Zosima, a chapel in the name Irinarkh and a chapel dedicated to the icon of the Sign Mother of God. In the monastery there is the tomb of Saint Philip, in it were buried the relics of Philip before transferring them to Moscow. There are two bell towers — the Royal and conciliar. The monastery is enclosed by a fortress wall that was built between 1584 po year. On the wall at the top there is a covered walkway, 8 towers with loop-holes arranged at the corners. Over the Holy gates, there is a miraculous image of the Saviour, which was written in 1624. Solovetsky temples and the sacristy are renowned for the presence of ancient crosses, Gospels, Holy icons of execution and ancient Church liturgical utensils.

The Holy lake is situated at the Eastern side of the monastery. Nice it clean water is pleasant to the taste. Worship in the monastery carried out with uncompromising execution of the statutes of the Church. The monastery was subjected to a seven-year siege, because of the open rebellion of monks. In 1676 was taken by storm. In 1694 and 1702 the monastery was visited by Peter the Great. In the memory of his first visit a chapel was built on the shore in the place where he landed. The chapel still exists today. And on the arms, inside the gates of dawn are two models of the ships on which he arrived. During the Crimean war, British warships bombarded the monastery.

At the monastery in 1859 was founded two year College, and 1880 was established iconographic school. Also at the monastery are a hospital, a poorhouse and a variety of workshops.

In the early 20th century to the monastery were 3 desert and 6 skits. At Solovki were 19 churches and had a 30 chapels.

In connection with the revolution of 1917 the new government was declared war on the Church and the entire Orthodox. By the decision of Soviet rule, the monastery was closed and in 1923 founded the Solovetsky camp of special destination.

In 1967 there was founded the Solovetsky Museum-reserve. In 1988 he formed out of the parish, and six months later, was consecrated Filippovskaya chapel – the first of the revived temple of the Solovetsky Islands.

In late October 1990, with the blessing of the Holy Synod, the opening of the Transfiguration resurrection monastery.
