Memorial Museum-apartment of Isaak Izrailevich Brodsky, unique person, gifted teacher, artist and collector, located in the historic center of St. Petersburg on Arts square in a house built by Carlo Rossi and L. Benoit was opened in 1949. From 1924 to 1939, the last 15 years of his life, Brodsky lived and worked in this Studio apartment.
Isaak Brodsky, a favorite student of Ilya Repin, graduated from the Academy of fine Arts, with equal success, and painted landscapes and portraits. A number of his works were devoted to the military theme and the events of the revolution. Students Brodsky were the outstanding Russian artists - Y. M. Veprintsev, A. I. Laktionov, p. P. Belousov V. M. Oreshnikov. Brodsky is the Central figure in official Soviet art 1920-1930-ies.
For several decades, the Brodsky has compiled a unique collection, which included works by Russian painters of the eighteenth - early twentieth centuries. In the Brodsky Museum you can see paintings of Ilya Repin, Vladimir Makovsky, Vasily Surikov, Vasily Polenov, Serov, Isaac Levitan and Konstantin Korovin, Golovin, M. A. Vrubel. B. M. Kustodiev, M. V. Nesterova, V. A. Serov, S. Y. Zhukovsky, A. N. Benoit, N. To. Roerich, B. D. Grigoriev and other artists.
The Museum has more than 2000 items and paintings, including more than two hundred paintings and graphic works by Brodsky and more than six hundred paintings, painted by other authors, as well as documents, memorabilia, furniture, books, pictures with unique autographs of famous people. In 2001 we completed the reconstruction of the house in the square of Arts. Since that time, the Museum regularly organizes various exhibitions of contemporary artists, and on the second floor of the building, in the workshop, which is a hall with excellent acoustics, now held chamber vocal and instrumental classical music concerts.
