Si Satchanalai is not only a historical heritage of Thailand and the city of the ancient Kingdom of Sukhothai, but also recognized as world Heritage by UNESCO. It is considered to be a miniature copy of Sukhothai, capital of the eponymous Kingdom. In si Satchanalai the reins were direct descendants of the Royal couple, the peak of the city's development occurs in the period from 1347 to 1368 year in the reign of king ly Thai to. To date, in the ancient city remained predominantly Buddhist religious buildings, they are found both inside and outside the city walls.
Wat Chang Lom is located almost in the centre of the old town, the main element of the architecture is the Chedi (stupa) in the style of Sri Lanka. However, in the temple and traced the unique style of the Sukhothai Kingdom: the base of the Chedi is surrounded by statues of 39 elephants.
The Chedi jet of Theeu in front of Wat Chang Lom, contains seven nearby the magnificent Chedi, created in completely different styles. They felt the impact as Sri Lanka and the pagan, and Srivijaya. On top of many of the Chedi is the Lotus as a symbol of a pure mind.
Inside the city walls is another important Chedi, created in the style of Sri Lanka, it can be seen at Wat Nang Seasons. Outside the city is worth a visit Wat Phra si Rathinamangalam and Wat Chao Chan, whose architecture is similar to the late period of the Kingdom of Lopburi.
In its heyday, si Satchanalai was a major center of ceramic production style of Sanchalak or Sangkhalok, archaeologists still occasionally find its fragments, as well as elements of kilns on site near the city. Here is a small Museum of ancient ceramics with the support of the Center si Satchanalai for the study and preservation of the products of the style of Sangkhalok.
Near si Satchanalai is another ancient settlement Chaliang, it is built in Khmer style. This suggests that the date of its construction is necessary at a much earlier period of history than the existence of the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
