Castle ruins of Bagrati is one of the most popular archaeological sites in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia is located near the city of Sukhumi, on its Eastern edge, near the camp site Abkhazia, on top of a hill. There the road was built.

The castle was built on a hill above the sea and the valley of the river Basla. From the walls and four towers, the fortress was controlled southern outskirts of Sukhumi and port at the mouth of the river. Now from the two-meter walls of rubble stone, lined with round stones, only ruins. Fragments of walls and towers reaches the height of 10 meters. During excavations in the fortress were found objects that testify to the traditional crafts and unique way of life of the Abkhaz – fragments of pottery, bones of domestic animals, nails, fragments of glass jewelry.
