Monument to I. A. Kuratov is in front of the Opera and ballet Theatre of the Komi Republic in Syktyvkar. Ivan Alekseevich Kuratov was born in 1839 in the Sexton family in the village Kebra Ust-Sysolsk uyezd, Vologda province (now the village of Kurtovo Sysolsk district of the Republic of Kazakhstan). In 1854 he graduated from Yarensk religious school. From 1854 to 1860, she studied at the Seminary in Vologodsky. The purpose of his life was determined in the poem "Life of man" (1857) – to give happiness to his people.
Ivan Alekseevich Kuratov deservedly recognized as the founder of Komi literature. At 13 years of age at the Seminary he began writing poetry and continued to go at poetry until the end of their life. In the highest degree fruitful period of his life was time spent in Ust-Sysolsk (now Syktyvkar), where Ivan arrived in 1861 after an unsuccessful attempt to continue training in Moscow. Here he engaged in the literacy education of peasant children, worked on the language literature and, of course, created poems. He lived in a 2-okataina wooden house, which was later demolished. Now this place (street Ordzhonikidze, 10) in a residential house is a Literary-memorial Museum of I. A. Kuratov. Then Ivan moved to Kazan, where a short time was acting regimental auditor. Since 1866, lived in Central Asia. Died in the city of Vernyi (now Alma-ATA) in 1875.
During the life of Ivan Alekseevich Kuratov under a pseudonym published only 5 works of poetry, notably, under the guise of Komi folk songs and translated into Russian language. In addition, Ivan was engaged in translating the works of such geniuses from Russian as Ivan Andreevich Krylov, Alexander Pushkin and others, as well as foreign classics of world literature: Robert burns, Horace.
Kuratov paid great attention to the study of the Komi-Zyryan language, created a grammar of the Komi language, studied grammar, Mari and Udmurt languages. Ivan stood early humanistic worldview, justice and the rule of law, to the end of his life with courage fought with the stately lawbreakers.
Every year in Syktyvkar are organizing Kuratowski readings. It is named after humanitarian-pedagogical College and one of the Central streets of Syktyvkar.
