One of the most famous temples of the Republic of Komi has been piously-the Kazan temple located in one of the most visited scenic spots Syktyvkar – over the river Sysola.

In the old days on the site of the present Church was formerly a chapel was constructed, originally erected in the village Cocona. It was consecrated in honor of saints John and Procopius of Ustyug Miracle workers. The earliest mention of the chapel belong to the distant past, when she appeared in documents of the Trinity Ust-Synaescope of the parish. During 1860, thanks to the help of the faithful peasants, the chapel acquired the altar.

May 27, 1861 built piously-the Kazan temple was consecrated in the name of the Kazan icon of the mother of God the priests of Holy Trinity Cathedral. A variety of temple utensils were particularly numerous for the needs of the Commission of sacred Worship, the service became a frequent event and was held on holidays, Sundays, as well as the desire of believers.

June 26, 1901, was an especially hot weather, accompanied by strong gusts of wind. Because of the strong hurricane one of the peasant houses caught fire, and flames so quickly spread that it was not possible to put it out. The presence of wind, all with more force helped the flames move from one house to another, burning everything in its way – soon almost the whole village was at the mercy of the fire, and numerous attempts to prevent the fire has not ended in success. In the power of the fire was a Church with a bell tower, burned the iconostasis with icons, many Church vessels and only a small portion of the items were saved. But the great event marked the sad fate of the village – the icon of the Kazan Mother of God was the survivors soon found the villagers amid the heaps of burned items. Holy icon to this day pleases the faithful that while in the iconostasis of the Holy Kazan Church. After all that has happened the villagers vowed that every year on the day of the terrible event to conduct a prayer to the Lord God and his Mother for their salvation from the merciless flames of the devastating fire.

After the fire, local villagers have spent a lot of effort to restore his village. Ordeal became fierce winter had to endure only a few huts. Since the temple was also burned during the fire, had to build a new wooden Church. In the autumn of 1906 the newly built Church was consecrated in honor of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God.

The events of 1917 could not fail to affect the fate and state of the temple, which became the last refuge and hope of all believers. Around the perimeter of the temple settled many monks ruined monasteries, lay people and clergy, surviving a terrible spiritual crisis. In 1937, the temple was in total disrepair, the community broke up, priests were not. In 1938 it became a question of the termination of work of the temple, and the next year it was closed, after which it was used as a reading hut.

In the midst of the war of 1941-1945 piously-the Kazan Church was opened again, and the villagers together took up the restoration of the Church. In this time of the Church, the community wrote a letter to the Moscow Department of the Council for religious Affairs under the Council of people's Commissars with a request addressed to the Museum of the city of Syktyvkar in the Komi Republic, to return once seized the temple utensils.

A considerable number of clergy from various dioceses steel re-take the priestly path in the newly opened piously-the Kazan temple. As a deacon in the Church service conducted by the Bishop of Vorkuta and Syktyvkar Pitirim Volochkov. In the spring of 1996, the Church was visited Alexy II, Patriarch of all Russia, which served a moleben. In the summer of 1997 in piously-the Kazan temple was celebrated the first Liturgy in the language of Komi.

Today the Church library for parishioners. The temple is active missionary work. Church parables and clergy make visits to different areas of the Republic of Komi and conduct worship services, organize new parishes and assist in the construction of new temples.
