The tel Aviv Museum of art – art Museum with an unusual history. The core of its collection consists of works by artists of the first half of the twentieth century, including true masterpieces.

The Museum was opened shortly after the founding of tel Aviv, long before Israel gained independence. The congregation at first was placed in the house of the first mayor of tel Aviv Meir Dizengoff.

A native of Bessarabia (Russian Empire), Narodovolets, engineer Mikhail Yakovlevich Dizengoff in 1905 he settled in Jaffa. In 1909, sixty-six families gathered on the coastal dunes to play on a lot of land: they were to establish here is the first Jewish city in Palestine. One of the sites bought Meir and Qing Dizengoff, built the house. Meir became the head of the municipality; when the area grew and became a city, he was elected mayor.

In 1930 beloved Qing died. In memory of his wife Meir presented family house on Rothschild Boulevard in tel Aviv. He proposed to open here the art gallery, the base of which are family collection of Dizengoff. At the opening of the Museum in 1932, the mayor said: "it is Impossible to build houses, pave streets and improve the city, not thinking about the aesthetics and harmony, not instilling in the population the aesthetic taste". Sixteen years later, David Ben-Gurion chose this famous building to proclaim the Declaration of independence of Israel. Here at first was going to the Parliament.

Over time, the Museum felt cramped in this house. In 1971, most of the collection was transferred to constructed by the architect Dan Eitan and Yitzhak Yashar main building on the Boulevard Shaul Ha-Melech. Later to it by architect Preston Scott Cohen added a West wing, added a sculpture garden.

In the Museum's collection of more than 40 thousand exhibits – works by artists representing the art of XX century: the Impressionists, the fauves, German expressionists, Cubists, futurists, Russian constructivists. Here you can see paintings by Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Cezanne, Sisley, Matisse, Modigliani, Kandinsky, Chagall, Picasso. The star of the Museum is the famous "Portrait of Friederike Maria beer" painted by the famous Austrian modernist Gustav Klimt.

There in the Museum is very representative of the Department of old European masters, including 130 works by Rubens, van Dyck, Jan Brueghel the younger, Reynolds, Canaletto, Rigaud. In 1950, the Museum was also the owner of the paintings from the collection of Peggy Guggenheim, the patron of the American abstract artist Paul Jackson Pollock. The gift was part of the work of Pollock, Baziotes, Pousette-dart, Tanguy, Matta, Masson.

The Museum is adjacent sculpture garden, named after the prominent Israeli fashion designer and designer of Lola beer Ebner, at the time, developed the uniforms for female soldiers of the IDF. Here outdoor sculptures Calder, Gucci, Maillol, Lipchitz, Karo, Graham, as well as prominent Israeli artists Ullmann, Berg, Cohen-levy.
