In Ueno Park, which in itself is remarkable and collects a great many visitors in the days of cherry blossom, is the oldest in Japan zoo. According to the magazine Forbes, it is included in the list of the fifteen best zoos in the world.

The Ueno zoo for over 130 years – it was founded in 1882. In the cages Ueno is 2600 animals – representatives of 464 species. The most valuable residents of the zoo and Japanese favorites of the public and tourists are the large Panda – black and white bamboo bears. The zoo staff are not only caring for these animals, but also conduct serious scientific research on restoration of the population of giant pandas. The birth of each bear, and any potentially interesting event in the life of pandas instantly becomes the object of attention of journalists. When in Ueno in 2008, died last Panda, in neighbouring China employees had rented a couple of bears for ten years. In Ueno they arrived in 2001, and this, of course, became a sensation and attracted thousands of visitors.

In addition to the giant pandas, great public attention attracted by Western lowland gorillas, Sumatran and Siberian tiger, giraffes and other animals.

Zoo gates open to visitors every day except Monday. Visit the enclosures may take longer than planned – the zoo is very large excursion it is possible to make in the car of the monorail. At the zoo is the national Museum of nature and science, children's gym. At the entrance to the zoo visitors are welcomed by the layout of the blue whale in full size. In the children's zoo you can pet domestic animals and poultry – goats, horses, geese and ducks.
