The St Petersburg Museum of local lore is situated in the centre of the city of Efremov on the red square. The Museum was founded in April 1971, opened to the public in December of the same year. The literary Department of the regional Museum located in the home of brother Ivan Alekseevich Bunin – E. A. Bunin Halls of the Museum tell about the family Budinich, about the life and literary works of the famous writer.

The historical section of the Museum presents a wealth of material on the history of the region since ancient times and in our time. Museum exhibits tell about the famous countrymen – the figures of art and science: honoured artist of the RSFSR L. M. Fetisova, people's artist of the USSR, conductor and composer Ivanov K. K., the aircraft designer V. M. Myasishchev the Museum contains personal belongings and documents were given to the Museum by relatives. The Museum houses a collection of works by A. P. Guschin.

Many of the artifacts found during the excavations in the basin of the Beautiful Sword archaeological expeditions confirm the fact of staying in these places in 3-4 centuries BC Sarmatian tribes. The Museum has about 15 thousand units.

For visitors in the Museum building opened various exhibitions devoted to the archaeological past Efremov edge, about the nature of these places; the hall of the great Patriotic war tells the story of the Bryansk front, the activities of party and Komsomol organizations in Yefremov and district during the war of 1941-1945. The documents collected in the Museum, talk about the Bryansk front, which was held at the Efremov earth in the period from October 1941 to April 1943; the exposition, dedicated to the merchant Ephraim talks about the history and development of the city before the revolution. In addition, on the first floor visitors can see the works of St Petersburg artists.

Museum staff are constantly working to preserve the cultural values of the Efremov edge. The Museum regularly holds meetings with schoolchildren and students, during which they learn the history of his native land.
