Schärding - Austria city located on the Inn river to the South of Passau in the Federal state of Upper Austria. The area around Schärding has been inhabited since Neolithic times. During the Roman Empire took place here towards the Danube. In historical documents Schärding first mentioned in the year 806. From the 10th century the territory came into the possession of the County of Neuburg, and 1248, the land became the property of Wittelsbach.
By the 13th century Schärding turned into a prosperous market town, trading in salt, timber, wine, silk, livestock and grain. With 1429 in 1436 when Duke Ludwig " Tetine in the town was erected and a variety of building: gates, moats, walls.
After the Congress of Vienna 1816 Schärding was on the edge of the state, and all trade routes were cut off by the customs border. The salt trade was quickly stalled, and former transport routes has lost its relevance. Following the situation of economic stagnation was the reason that Schärding today has been almost completely preserved historic urban landscape and is a member of the Association of small historic towns.
The city is very interesting from a tourist point of view, since it is itself a landmark with houses from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
