The first city theatre appeared in Usti nad Labem quite late: in the early twentieth century. Prior to this presentation gave numerous theater troupes, wandering from town to town in search of work. In 1908, the city has allocated funds for the construction of buildings intended for carrying out of performances and the work of the permanent staff. About a year multistory mansion of white stone in the neo-Baroque style was built. The project for this theatre was designed by architect Alexander Graf. Before the First world war the theatre was only staged dramatic works and operas. Closed for the period of hostilities, the school once again began its work in 1919. This mansion some incredible miraculously survived the bombing in 1945 and was soon able to take again a favorite of the audience. His repertoire has changed significantly: now at the theater had not only drama and Opera, and operetta, and musicals, and ballets. There is also often held concerts and visiting musicians.

In 1967 he held a significant alteration of the theatre, which touched not only the auditorium, designed by 878 people, but also the lobby, which was decorated with paintings by contemporary Czech artists, and technical premises. The theater was completely replaced by the lighting equipment and installed a more modern ventilation system.

Its current name "the North Bohemian theatre of Opera and ballet, the school received in 2004. At the moment it employs two staff – ballet troupe and Opera singers.
