Town hall in Vilnius this monument, which is an outstanding representative of the architectural buildings in the classical style with the all-Union importance in the Soviet era. In the mid-18th century the town hall was reconstructed and Tomasz of Roussel and Johann Christoph. In 1781, the building of the town hall was damaged by debris of the collapsed octagonal clock tower.
In 1810 in the town hall began its action Polish theatre. Since 1845 the building was the municipal theatre, which was dramatic performances in Polish and Russian languages. In 1924-1925, the theatre was closed by city officials because of the threat of a possible fire. At this time, the street was cleaned iron staircase.
In the interwar years the town hall was restored from sketches Stefan Narimskogo, the building acquired its original appearance. Was erected and a new marble staircase.
