The Cathedral of Transfiguration today is the oldest surviving and operating temples in the city of Yakutsk. This Cathedral has always been held in high esteem among the faithful. He embodied the advent of Christianity to the Yakut people. Local artists adorn the temple paintings and icons - carved frames and cared for flowering plants in the courtyard of the Cathedral.

The construction of the magnificent Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration was conducted in 1838 - 1845 the Church was built with funds donated large merchants Solovieva, who at that time was successful suppliers of expensive and valuable materials from Yakutia in the center of the Russian Empire.

Originally the Church was planned by white brick, but Yakut architects have shown a desire to give the new Church a certain solemnity and insisted that the Church was built from red brick. The Cathedral is built in pseudo-Russian architectural style. Durable tongs adorn the facade of the quadrangle of the Cathedral.

The Church is crowned with five beautiful chapters, framed by a shining Golden domes. A unique belfry. It is here that young ringers learn all the tricks of the bell business. The Transfiguration Cathedral was richly decorated, it had a beautiful iconostasis.

Quite a long time the rector of the Cathedral was a famous educator and missionary Archpriest Dmitry Khitrov, who in 1868 was ordained, becoming the first Bishop of Yakutsk and Vilyui Dionysius.

In 30-ies of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration was destroyed by the atheists. Survived him only a dilapidated lower part. It housed various city organizations. After the building was evacuated library, which stood there last, and it does it was neglected and began to decay, losing its original appearance. The rebirth of the Church began only in 1993 after the opening of the Yakutsk diocese. In 1994, he held the Grand opening of the Cathedral.

Today Yakut Cathedral of the Transfiguration is a real symbol of the Old city of Yakutsk.
