Yakutsk state academic Russian drama theatre named after A. S. Pushkin is the first and, respectively, the oldest theatre in the territory of the Republic.
In 1920 on the basis of the local circle of admirers of theatre and music in the house of the bailiff held the opening of the Russian theatre in the city of Yakutsk. He became the first professional theatre in Yakutia. The history of the theatre began with the play "the lower depths" in the works of Maxim Gorky. The theatre quickly grew on its stage was delivered about 10 performances-the Prime Minister.
Russian theatre did not stop their work even in the most difficult years for the country (revolution, repression, war). Here was the performances that made the people to believe in the victory over fascism. In the war period were the most popular plays: "Front" Korneichuk, "Wait for me" and "Russian people" Simonov, "the naval Officer" Crown, "Invasion" Leonov, "A long time ago" Gladkov and so on. The theatre has received numerous awards for his achievements. In 1980 he was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor", and in 1998 became academic. In 1992 on the basis of the Yakut, Russian theatre in the national capital took place the opening of the Yakut branch of the school-Studio named after V. Nemirovich-Danchenko at the Moscow art theatre named after A. Chekhov. In 1999 the theatre was named after a famous Russian poet, playwright and novelist Alexander Pushkin. At the same time in the square theatre installed a bronze bust, which was made by the sculptor G. Nutty.
