Yalta Armenian Church was erected in 1909 and completed its construction in 1914. Armenian architect Gabriel Ter-Michelena in 1905, was commissioned the project of the Church. Sketches of construction and interior decoration of the building was made by famous Armenian painter and theatre artist Vardges Surenyants. The Church was erected with funds Baku oilman Poghos Ter-Ghukasyan. He built the Church in memory of his deceased daughter. His daughter he left this life and was buried in the family tomb, which was located at the base of the Church. Later in this tomb were buried and his two sons. As the legend says, one of the sons settled scores with life itself, losing at cards quite a large amount, and the other died under unknown circumstances.
Yalta Armenian Church was constructed in the traditions, which were built early Christian churches, and resembles an ancient temple of Hripsime in Echmiadzin. The architect based his project has taken this ancient temple. Built Armenian Church in Yalta material foros volcanic tuff.
The main southern facade of the building is decorated leading to it a hundred steps, framed pyramidal cypresses. From the Central staircase overlooking the majestic dome, surmounted by a cross. From here you can admire the beauty of a low arch on the South entrance, three-tiered loggia, which is decorated with the details, subtly incised on a stone by craftsmen. At the rear of the Church is its main entrance. The entrance portal is crowned by a graceful rotunda of the belfry. On the North-Eastern part there are two arched Windows, decorated with a relief image of a cross with geometric designs. West side Church completes the structure of the rotunda-the belfry of six columns. An open loggia decorated decoration, made in the traditions of the Armenian architecture of the 12th and 13th centuries.
Ground floor is suitable for crypt. He underlined nominal niche, executed with finesse, and very beautiful apse of the tomb. The entrance of the niche is framed by an arch ornamented. Metal grille adorns the window of the tomb. It is a picture of two black ravens that guard the eternal rest of the dead.
The domed hall of the Armenian Church attracts with its original interior. Cruciform in plan, it is illuminated through the wall pylons twelve arched Windows. The dome of the Church is decorated with frescoes depicting white and blue flowers, arranged on a light green background. Flowers as in the line to the sun. This ornament enliven birds of Paradise.
The last shelter I received here and the Creator of this Church - Vardges Surenas, who died in 1921. In front of the southern facade of the Church is his gravestone, made of gray diorite.
