A former Magistrate, is located on the picturesque Castle hill, belongs to the architectural attractions of Zhitomir. The building was built in the 18th century and once it housed the municipal office.
Luxury two-storey building of brick was erected in neo-Renaissance style. Consistency of its forms and rigor of the architecture is still amazing. The main entrance to the building is in the middle, in a semicircular ledge. The facades of the buildings are covered semicircular Windows with sophisticated decoration. On the first tier of Windows are magnificent semicircular archivolt, and on the second floor - frames of triangular pediments supported by stately Corinthian pilasters. The decoration of the building of the magistrate is original cornice with brackets and moulded frieze with floral ornaments.
Like many monuments of history and architecture, the town Council building was destroyed during the great Patriotic war. It happened in the very beginning in 1941, But a decade later, in 51 years of the last century, the magistrate was entirely restored. Architectural appearance of the building with all its details and nuances has been fully restored. Now local authorities plan the walls of the former magistrate to place the exposition of the gallery.
