The Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery is located a mile West of Zvenigorod. It was founded on the orders of Yuri Dmitrievich in 1398. In XVI-XVII centuries, the monastery served as the Tsar's prayer. Enjoyed the special patronage of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. In 50-ies of the XVII century the monastery was surrounded by stone walls with towers, in addition to several temples were erected the Royal Palace and private building. In the future, the Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery remained one of the richest and most famous monasteries in the Moscow region. But in 1919 it was closed, was used by the colony for minors, and since the 1930s belonged to the military Department. Since 1947 part of the premises of the monastery is a Museum. The center of the monastery is the Cathedral of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary – the temple dome, decorated belts fretwork. Its interior has been preserved fragments of frescoes from the early fifteenth century, the artists of the circle of Andrei Rublev and painting of the walls and ceilings of the seventeenth century. The pride of the temple is a five – tier iconostasis of the XVII century.
Next to the red and white Trinity Church, which now house the Museum, are the Queen's chambers – the Palace of Maria Miloslavskaya. Hipped front porch decorated with thick jug-shaped columns. The Royal Palace (1650-ies) is a huge 11-room house, in a rich decoration of architecture and decoration which can be traced Western motifs.
The biggest building of the monastery is a four-storey building of the Refectory with the glacier, a well and a dining room. Characteristically, that in the XVII century Windows were inserted of glass instead of mica, and the room was heating. Completes the monastery ensemble of four-storey belfry with three tents and a sentry turret.
