Numana is a coastal town near Ancona. In ancient times it was known under the name of Humana. The legend says that the founder of the city was a mythical Queen Piceno – woman-giant, half body which had the form of a serpent, and on the back which grew huge wings. She metal balls of fire on the shore, burning down the forest, and from the ashes rose Humana, which in Latin means "man".

Numana is located in the heart of the Adriatic coast of Italy, at the southern spurs of Monte Conero. Almost 92% of the city included in the regional Park of Monte Conero".

The old part of town is often called "Numana Alta" because it lies on the top of the cliff, facing the sea, and is virtually a continuation of another resort town of Sirolo. "Numana Bassa" occupies the area around the port. The upper beach of Numana consists of two small coves is the so-called Speeddial beach. And lower beach of Numana stretches South all the way to the village, Marcelli. The inner city is mostly hilly, and in the mouth of the river Musone are wetlands of great ecological value.

From attractions to Numana worth to mention, especially, the Church of the Crucifixion (Santuario del Crocifisso) – it was built in 1968 year, the place of another temple, the creation of which is attributed to Pellegrino Tibaldi. Some preserved frescoes by the painter Andrea Lilly and wooden crucifix, which as believe, in the 9th century, the Emperor Charlemagne was bringing as a gift to Pope Leo III, but because of the storm was forced to leave in Ancona. Also worth a visit the Bishop's Palace – Palazzo Vescovile that once belonged to the noble Roman families and acquired by the bishops of Ancona as a summer residence. Today it houses the Town Hall. Noteworthy and ancient Roman arch and aqueduct, located at a slight distance from each other. The arch was part of the tower that collapsed during the earthquake of 1930-th year, and the aqueduct, which was decorated with a fountain, was used to supply water to the inhabitants of Ancona until the mid-20th century.

Two areas Numana – Marcelli and Taunus mountains are tourist resorts. The first is located 4 km from the city. This is the main coastal resort of Riviera del Conero. In the Taunus built a lot of hotels of different levels.
