In addition to the natural values of the Carain is a great historical. Thanks particularly to its location and its convenience, she, from the time of the Paleolithic era – another twenty-five thousand years ago, was populated by people who left a large amount of mementos of their stay.
The cave was first opened in 1946. In the same year went down and the first scientific expedition in these underground labyrinths, led by Ismail Goal Cattenom. However, due to the crisis that erupted in the post-war years, excavations for an indefinite period of time had to be suspended. The cave is divided into seven halls, known as letters of the Latin alphabet from A to G. the Greatest interest among tourists hall E, in which were found the bones of the Neanderthal age of two hundred thousand years. This hall is the largest treasure trove of ancient monuments in the world. The cultural layer here is about eleven feet, which found guns Acheulian, Mousterian and Aurignacian eras, made of stone.
The cave has only one entrance, and it leads to three large halls and small Museum of Anatolian civilizations, which houses a collection of artifacts discovered during excavations Karina — products of stone and bone hunter-gatherers that lived in the cave.
It is noteworthy that in this cave were found the remains of ancient people on the territory of modern Turkey, as well as fragments of ancient weapons, arrowheads, tools, and bones of prehistoric animals, such as cave bear, wolf, lion, and hippopotamus. In the Mousterian layer, and intermediate between it and the Aurignacian, were found two teeth of ancient man, one of which belongs to the Neanderthal.
Judging by the inscriptions, which are lavishly decorated cave walls, we can conclude that it was used in ancient times not only as shelter but also as a place of worship. Perhaps there was a place of worship and sacrifice. It is also assumed that in different periods the cave was a place of burial. Inside the cave there was a serious destruction and landslides.
In the halls, illuminated by electric subdued light, made a special observation deck for tourists.
