Lovers of folk music can visit the Museum of Greek folk musical instruments. The Museum building is located in an old mansion of a prominent politician Georgios Lasania, built in 1842 near the Roman Agora. The house belongs to the historical monuments of the city. In 1991 the Museum was opened for visitors.

In the collection of the Museum presents more than 1200 variety of Greek folk musical instruments. The oldest exhibit dates back to the mid 18th century. This unique collection was assembled by famous Explorer by musicologist Vivacom Anogianakis. In 1978 he gave it as a gift to the state.

Much of the collection is available for continuous viewing. Each tool has a detailed description and the possibility to listen to its sound. The other tools are stored in the Museum, they are available for researchers and appear for temporary or visiting exhibitions.

On the first floor of the Museum presents tools-membranophone. These include Timberlake (percussion instrument), Dawley (a kind of drum), running a deficit (tambourines). Also on the first floor are the instruments aerophones ( wind instruments): srawley, flowery, Mandurah (flute), zabuni, Gedi (bagpipes), suryadi (oboes). On the second floor you can see the tools-chordophone (string): Lakhuti (lute), mandolin, dulcimer, guitar, tamborada. The third floor is occupied by the instruments idiophones, such as Massey (dulcimer), cudonia (bells), simandre. A special place in the exposition of the Museum occupies a unique 19th century lute made of ivory and tortoise shell.

The main goal of the Museum is the preservation of traditional heritage and promotion of Greek folk musical instruments. The Museum also has a research centre and has its own library.
