Old synagogue in Barcelona is one of the oldest, perhaps the oldest not only in Spain but throughout Europe. The synagogue is located almost in the center of the city, in the Jewish quarter. Unfortunately, from the original old buildings here, little remains except the Foundation, but this does not diminish the sacredness of the place where it is located. The synagogue was restored and, thanks to the efforts of historians, it is with 2002 primarily as a Museum. Therefore, visitors to the old synagogue can not only admire its interiors, but also to listen to the tour, which will tell about the historical facts of Jewish people living on the territory of modern Barcelona, and also about how I discovered the synagogue.
A special value, not only for Jews, but for all lovers of history and ancient culture, is the Torah scroll is stored here.
This building is actually the echo of history, because its Foundation dates back to Roman times. Some of the structures and facades of the buildings was built in the 13th century. The upper part of the building was completed in the 17th century. As expected, the facade of this ancient synagogue facing Jerusalem, where the Temple of Jerusalem. Every visitor to the synagogue, passing through her door, bowing, thus honouring the memory of the destroyed Jewish community.
Today, the synagogue is not used for daily prayers. Besides the fact that there are excursions, there is also arranged meetings and festivals the local Jewish community.
