Three kilometres from the centre of Brno, Villa Tugendhat, which is under UNESCO protection. This unusual structure, as if pinned to the ground, is one of the most successful examples of functionalism in architecture. Above the Villa for two years as a famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1928 he received an order from Fritz Tugendhat in the construction of residential villas. The customer has given the green light, and the architect used to create this mansion all their imagination.
First, the house has no load-bearing walls. The entire load of the ceiling is steel frame. The walls in the best traditions of functionalism painted white. On the design of the interiors and furniture creation worked the same architect. He managed to design two chairs, which were named Tugendhat and Brno. They are still produced for ordinary consumers and are in huge demand.
The inside of the house looks quite austere. Here you will find paintings or murals. The whole décor is based on the use of natural materials, which create a wonderful atmosphere of comfort. One of the walls in the house are made of onyx, which is able to transmit light that looks just amazing.
The Villa occupies a small hill, offering a magnificent view of the surroundings.
The Villa is open to the public. Many tourists who come here want to see not only evidence of the genius of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, but also to visit the interiors, where a historic event took place - was read the Declaration on the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
