Holy Transfiguration Church in Gelendzhik, located in the old cemetery, was built in pre-revolutionary times - after 1909, and operated as a cemetery chapel on consecrated in may 1904 the city cemetery. Since 1917, the Church of the ascension was systematically stopped working, and later, like most temples, it was closed. And only since 1952 in the cemetery chapel began to hold worship services.
The chapel was equipped as a temple and consecrated in the name of ascension. In June 1990 the Church was returned to believers, and then began its restoration. In 1993 the Church in the old cemetery was rededicated and it was then that it acquired its modern name.
With the blessing of Metropolitan of Ekaterinodar and Kuban, his Eminence Isidore, 1996 was started construction of the North vestibule and bell tower. In January 1998, the bell tower was erected a 16-foot tent with a cross and a dome. In 2002 in place of the old sheds and kitchen construction work began on the erection of the Sunday school. September 1, 2005 in new Sunday school classes began with children. In 2007 the Church has replaced the Central dome. In 2008 completed the construction of a memorial chapel. Nicholas, after which it was consecrated by the vicar of Ekaterinodar and Kuban diocese Bishop Tikhon.
Currently in Sunday school, serving at Holy Transfiguration Church, taught 50 students. The school taught the following courses: history of the ROC, the Law of God, singing, drawing, needlework, beading. At Easter and Christmas exhibitions in the city of Gelendzhik regularly exhibited works made by children. In the school building on the first floor there is a baptistery for the baptisms of adults and children.
