Arsenal arts, or Citadel, is today one of the most promising cultural projects in Ukraine. The citadel is perhaps the most large-scale cultural and artistic complex of Kiev.

It is based on such a monument of world importance as the Old Arsenal built at the turn of XVIII-XIX centuries the General Lieutenant Johann Moeller in the place which was previously occupied ascension nunnery. During construction it was intended to achieve several objectives. First, the local garrison needed a building that could accommodate warehouses, and repair of weapons and ammunition. Secondly, prosecuted purely ideological goal is to Eclipse the glory of the ascension monastery, as they were once led by Mary Magdalene Mazepin, which is the disgraced mother of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who did a lot for the renovation of the monastery.

The idea to turn the building of the Old Arsenal Museum complex was suggested more than once since the 90-ies, but only with the beginning of the twenty-first century, it finally became sold not only on paper. Of receipt in 2003 of the status of cultural and art institutions, Arsenal arts is actively being restored. In parallel with the restoration, the building now hosts art promotions, presentations, exhibitions, etc. In the future in addition to exhibition halls to accommodate the electronic library, art lab, bookstores, classrooms, data centers, conference rooms and much more, for example, the collection of the museums of Kiev, whom at the museums sorely lacking spaces, which can not be said about the Arsenal for the arts, which area is about 50,000 sq. m.
