Ojców national Park is one of 23 Polish national parks, established in January 1956. It is located in lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Krakovo-częstochowa upland, 16 km North of kraków. It is the smallest of the national parks of the country. Its area is 21, 46 sq km, of which the greater part is covered with forests. The symbol of the Park is a bat.

Karst landforms and two river valleys, and numerous limestone cliffs, ravines and more than 400 caves characterize the landscape of the Park. The most famous rock formation is a 25-meter column of limestone, known as "the Mace of Hercules".

Ojców national Park is home to 4600 insects (butterflies 1075 lives here! ) and 135 species of birds and 17 species of bats. Here you can meet deer, hares, wild boars, red foxes, Martens, ferrets and ermines, beavers and badgers, storks, owls, hawks, long-eared owls, black woodpeckers, thrushes, Redpolls.

The rich flora includes about 950 species of vascular plants, more than 230 species of mosses, 1200 varieties of mushrooms and about 200 species of lichens. More than 80 plant species are under state protection, including: Alpine rose, sea buckthorn, horsetail, dwarf cherry, and others. The largest area is covered with forests and thickets, among them: Carpathian beech, oak, pine.

In the Park there are several castles, including the ruined Gothic Palace and the castle in Pieskowa Skala, both were part of the medieval defense system in the South-West of Poland, known as the Trail of the eagles ' nests, which was built by king Casimir the Great.
