Photo: the Bishop's Palace
The Baroque Bishop's Palace was built in the XVI—XVIII centuries after the devastating earthquake of 1511, at the request of the then Bishop of Ljubljana, by Krzysztof Ravbar. The plans of the Palace were prepared by the assistant to the Bishop Augustin Preglem, architect, humanist and scientist from the Slovenian town of Lascaux. Later the Palace was rebuilt, but the original first floor and the entrance is still visible from the street Makova. Modern facade was designed by architect Leopold Hofer about 1778.
The building is part of the ensemble of the Cathedral and connected to it by a roofed gallery. At various times it housed the headquarters of Napoleon, the seat of the Illyrian rulers and lived Tsar Alexander I in 1821.
