The mausoleum of Moulay Ismail is one of the main attractions of Meknes. The city is situated on the plateau of El-Hajeb 60 kilometres from Fes. Until the end of the XVII century Meknes was the Royal residence. Later the Great Sultan Moulay Ismail made his primary and most magnificent city of his vast Empire. But, unfortunately, the construction of the city was never finished.

In appearance the tomb is very similar to the necropolis kind of Sadigov that in Marrakech. In the hall of the tomb presents the best works of Moroccan artists. This room has a luxurious interior and blends with austere courtyards.
The tomb of Moulay Ismail mosque is one of the few Islamic Shrine Morocco, which can be used by non-Muslims.
