The Greek Catholic Church of the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary can be considered one of the most famous religious buildings of the town, the pearl of Mukachevo, which is part of its rich architectural heritage.

The Church was built in the 19th century thanks to the initiative of famous scientist of Transcarpathia V. Dugovich. The Church became not only a spiritual abode for Catholics, but also the majestic beauty of the city. Simple, with simple, direct, clear lines and forms, the Church turned to the sky high bell tower, surmounted by a dome-umbrella, embodies the power of God. The external decoration of the temple is modest, unassuming, but this plainness compensates for its monumentality, scale, and these qualities make the building very impressive and memorable.

The unconventional part is the clock, installed above the main entrance in the tower. These watches were made in Munich in the early 19th century, and to this day they regularly follow the inexorable passage of time. To the architectural complex of the Church of the Dormition is the sculpture depicting the virgin Mary with the Baby in her arms, mounted on the right side in front of the building. This delightful, tranquil sculpture symbolizes for citizens well being and goodness, her feet are invariably flowers.
