The monument to the patron of the city of Nikolaev - Saint Nicholas - was set in Chestnut square at the street Soviet in 2005, the opening of the monument took place in honor of 216 anniversary of the city. Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker anciently considered to be the patron Saint of seafarers, protecting their ships during distant campaigns.

The monument to Nicholas the Wonderworker was made of grey-blue marble by architects A. Pavlov, A. Cooper and sculptor I. Bulavitskiy. The monument was created a year and a half on money donated by residents of the city. The names of all the benefactors immortalized on a pedestal. In the base of the pedestal of the mortgaged land from the Italian city of Bari, which is delivered to Nikolaev Italian Constantino Mass, also participated in the opening ceremony of the monument. The dedication of the monument to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was made Archbishop of Nikolayevsky and Voznesensky Pitirim.
