In the centre of the Old town, on the banks of the Pegnitz river lies the old hospital of St. Spirit, built in 1332. This is one of the largest surviving hospitals in Germany. The courtyard of the hospital is decorated with wooden gallery. Leper contained separately from other patients, a separate building was built.

In one of the buildings of the hospital of St. Spirit from 1424 to 1796 gg kept the symbols of the Holy Roman Empire. Now in the hospital is a nursing home and a small restaurant.
