Museum of shipbuilding plant "Avangard" was founded in 1984, and 5 years after that, the plant celebrated 50 years since the start of its work. The Museum was created on the basis of stories about the role of shipbuilding and seafaring in the history of Karelia, Russia and Europe.

The main part of the Museum of history and labor glory of the plant "Avangard" are numerous models of ships, samples, Souvenirs and furniture, and also other products created by the company. In addition, among the exhibits are: different kinds of diplomas, certificates, banners, awards and gifts given to the plant.

The exposition includes three sections: history of shipbuilding of models of various kinds and destination of ships; a photo exhibition titled "Petrozavodsk – 300 years factory service of the Russian fleet"; a collection devoted to labor glory shipbuilding plant "Avangard", presented in relics and awards.

The Museum exhibits works of famous poets, artists, photographers, writers; affordable to preview photos and documents on the topic: "On the sea, about the native plant. The Museum has an archive that has numerous collections of photographs, documents, albums and publications.

The Museum has departmental status, and its founder is himself shipbuilding plant "Avangard". The Museum conducts introductory and advanced lectures with slides and albums, and organizes excursions throughout the territory of the plant "Avangard" in the city of Petrozavodsk.
