In industrial holešovice in Prague are rarely wander tourists. To do nothing special here, proximity is almost there, except that majestic Catholic Church of blessed Anthony of Padua. It is located on the island between two roads - square Strossmayera. Because of limited space in front of him rarely going crowds.
The Church was built in the late nineteenth century, when the village holešovice was annexed to Prague. It lived at that time, more than 10 thousand people, many of them zealous Catholics, who were forced to visit the old Church of St. Clement, which could not accommodate all those wishing to attend the services. Therefore, under the leadership of pastor Antonina Nephila initiative group of parishioners began looking for a new, larger Church. The best project of the new Church was recognized as the work of the architect františek miksche. In 1908 construction began on the Church of the blessed Anthony of Padua. He was only able to finish in 6 years – in 1914. Was in the midst of the first world war, so a new Church was opened without special celebrations.
The temple, built in the Gothic revival style, reminiscent of the Tyn Church. It is surmounted by two high, narrow towers, decorated spires. The height of Church towers is equal to 63 meters.
On the facade you can see the sculptures of Czech saints – patrons of the country. They are made by talented sculptor Stephen Salescom.
The Church is open during worship services.
