The monumental Nymphaeum fountain Photo: Monumental Nymphaeum fountain

Many of the famous works of the ancient sculptors and unique monuments of architecture in side remained to our time. Rich historical heritage is carefully preserved by the Turkish government. One of such monuments is the Great monumental Nymphaeum fountain, built as the main gate of the city, in honor of the Emperor Vespasian and his son Titus. I believe that the building was created in the second century.

The Nymphaeum, otherwise called the fountain, which lies North-East of the city outside the city walls, directly opposite the Large Gate. The fountain is the first building seen by the traveler, entered the old town through the main gate, so that during its construction, much attention was paid to the aesthetic component. At the base of the fountain is a large swimming pool, which was dripping water nearby Manavgat river, that flows through the aqueduct.

Today you can see only two floors of the monument, but it is assumed that the fountain was a three-story, and its height and width was 5 and 35 meters respectively. In ancient times, the Nymphaeum fountain was very impressive structure. The architecture of the fountain was used marble niches, in each of them, shimmering in the sun, flowed water flows. The design of the monument was supplemented with Corinthian columns and exquisite statues. Water for this beautiful source was supplied by old city's aqueduct.

From the outside, the fountain was lined with marble and decorated with original frescoes. In the side Museum and now houses many interesting statues and decorations of the monumental fountain.

Despite the pressures of time, the construction conveys to us the spirit of the time and imagine how it looked many years ago will not be difficult. The charm of antiquity and grandeur of Naitauba will delight even the most experienced traveler.
