In the Central part of the town of Syzran, in the historical building of late nineteenth century houses the municipal Museum. Two-storey mansion with a shop previously belonged to merchant Ledneva. Having survived a devastating fire in 1906, the building retains historical value in our days is considered a monument of architecture.

The history of the Museum began in 1923, agriculture exhibition, organized by the local historian, lover N. In.Guryev. Within two years the Museum has become a repository of a number of cultural values. In 1924 was formed several collections: rare books, iconography, historical photographs, coins and archaeological finds. In 1925 the Museum was filled with a collection of unique items from the ruined manors: count Orlov-Davydov (S. Usolie), princes Gagarin (S. Zubrovka) and estates Nasakenai from the village of Gubino. And if at the end of the twentieth century, the Museum occupied only the first floor of a merchant's mansion, today the building is fully occupied exhibition display cases, information boards, plasma TVs and historical exhibits. From 1960-1990 for Museum of local lore identified areas of the Spasskaya tower of the Kremlin and the city's Exhibition hall (the mansion of the merchant M. V. Chernukhina).

Near the entrance to the Museum placed the barrels of guns of the seventeenth century with historical dents. The wheels and carriage were cast at the Syzran refinery engineering, masters painted the guns in accordance with the requirement of the time.

In our days in the funds Syzran Museum of local lore, there are more than fifty thousand items of material and cultural values of the region. There is active research, prospecting, methodological, cultural and educational activities.
