Monument to Peter the great, located in the historic town of Taganrog on Peter street at the gate of the city garden is one of the attractions of the city. The monument was made by the famous sculptor M. M. Antokolsky. The casting of the monument was made in Paris in the workshops of the brothers Thibault. Monument to Peter the great was installed at the request of the local community and with funds donated by natives of Taganrog, transferred to A. P. Chekhov when meeting with the sculptor Antokolsky and Bernstam in Paris.
