St. Nicholas Church is located on Shevchenko street. The construction of the Church was begun in 1777, thanks to the initiative of the commander-in-chief of the Taganrog port and Azov flotilla rear Admiral F. A. Logacheva. The consecration of the Church took place in 1778, the First rector of the Church became Isidore of lekhnitskii, priest of the Voronezh diocese. There is a legend that the temple was built on the spot where the tent of Peter the great, when he first arrived at Tahani horn. The construction of the Church did the sailors, its parishioners were mostly local fishermen.

In 1845 was attached to the Church a three-tiered brick bell tower and landscaped the surrounding area. After some time to the chapel was attached to the refectory. In 1865, the mayor of St. Nicholas Church Smirnov petitioned the office of the city of gratuitous allocation of a land plot for construction of houses, which housed the apartment and the school of the clergy. In 1855-1856, during the Crimean war the city came under artillery fire, as evidenced by the bomb stuck in the Northern wall of St. Nicholas Church. In 1941 during the great Patriotic war the wooden part of the temple was completely burnt. And in 1957 were blown up in the top tiers of the bell tower.

In the early 1990s due to government funding and the efforts of Abbot A. F. Klinkova on the site of the burned Church, the bell tower was restored and a new brick Church building with administrative premises. The internal layout was made so that if necessary, the building could be used for worship.

Today, St. Nicholas Church is a Orthodox education and spirituality. The temple complex consists of three integrated into the ensemble parts and is a monument of history and culture of the XVIII century When the Church is a Sunday school for children and adults.
