The most important and largest among the 29 Buddhist temples of Phuket is Wat Chalong, which was founded in the late nineteenth century. It is dedicated to two venerable monks, Luang On Tea and Luang po Quang, who, being a great herbalists, helped many miners during the uprising on tin mining in 1876. Since 1846 when the temple was given Royal status, his second name was Wat Chiatura.
