The Graben is a pedestrian zone in the centre of Vienna, the area of the most fashionable shops and boutiques, restaurants and cafes, antique and secondhand shops.

In the centre of the square stands the Baroque Holy Trinity column, also called the pillar of the Trinity. It was erected by order of Emperor Leopold I. after many years of the plague in the late seventeenth century. On the top of the column are statues depicting the praying Saint. The Trinity of the Emperor.

There are two buildings, designed by the famous architect Otto Wagner – early classics of Viennese modernism: the home insurance company Anchor and pompous house Graben-Hof. Nearby is the Jewish Museum and the auction house Dorotheum.

Next to the Cathedral of Saint Stephen in 1985-1990 the house was built Haas. This house is designed in modern style glass and aluminum is one of the most controversial works of the city centre.
