Karl-Marx-Hof is the most famous municipal house in Vienna, located in the 19th district of the city. Karl-Marx-Hof is the longest residential building in the world.

In 1927, by special order of the social democratic party of Austria, the architect Karl EN, which is the successor of Otto Wagner, started construction of the house. The ruling party wanted to defeat poverty in the city, introduced a tax on luxury items (cars, servants, property ownership). It is this money and 64 was built thousands of apartments for the needy, including Karl-Marx-Hof. The building was finished in three years, its construction took 25 million bricks. Karl-Marx-Hof was involved in February 1934 in the February rebellion. The rebels barricaded themselves inside the building and were forced to surrender after the Austrian army and police began a bombardment of the building, not taking into account the unarmed residents and families of ordinary workers. Eventually the house was taken by government troops on the second day of fighting. Karl-Marx-Hof received heavy damage and was repaired in 1950.

The house has been used as a filming location in some movies, including "the Night porter".

In the period from 1924 po G. G. in the Austrian capital were built many social houses, which formed the whole of the municipal districts. In particular, there is a house with a very similar name – Karl-Marc-Hof, which received its name in honor of Dr. Karl Mark.
