The Holy Trinity Church in the village of Ivankovo-Lenino Photo: Trinity Church in the village of Ivankovo-Lenino

In the small village of Ivankovo-Lenino that in fourteen kilometers South of the city of Alatyr, is the beautiful Trinity Church, one of the most notable high iconostasis in Russia.

In 1626 in Ivankovo the steep Bank of the Sura was already the Archangel Michael chapel. In 1746, it was replaced with a wooden structure of the Church of the Epiphany, and in 1890 at same place was built a stone Church with three altars. The temple was built by the parishioners and until 1945 was called the Epiphany (like the previous). After the war the Church was consecrated in honor of the icon of Holy Trinity Church.

Restored the Church building with three-storey bell tower is an architectural landmark of the whole village, the dome of the Church can be seen for several tens of kilometers. The Church has three altars - the main in the name of the Holy Trinity, and also chapels in honor of the Epiphany and in the name of the Holy virgin. The interior is decorated with carved iconostasis in seven tiers, which is among the highest in Russia. The basis of the iconostasis are five rows: local (king's gate), Deesis (main), festive, and prophetic forefather (old Testament). Additional rows were established from the 17th century under the influence of Ukrainian art and was not included in the theological program of classical five-tier iconostasis. In our days, seven-tier iconostasis - a rarity.

Ivankovo Trinity Church with the adjacent chapel is an architectural monument of the nineteenth century and most beautiful Orthodox attraction of Chuvashia. The temple is situated in a picturesque location with views of the river Sura.
