The Church of St. Nicholas in Volotovo was built at the expense and on the initiative of count M. P. Rumyantsev in 1817 instead of the old dilapidated wooden Church. For its construction has been invited by British architect John Clark, and for the painting of the altar Rumyantsev was specifically sent to study local master painter abroad.
In the early 1830s, many parish priests complained about the poor condition of the temple, numerous records in the Church archives. In 1838 the Church was made necessary repairs. Brick floor was replaced with wood, were made other repairs.
In 1846, the owner of these places became Prince Ivan Fedorovich Paskevich, who conceived a great change in his estate. On his insistence, the peasants of Volotovo were resettled in the village of Ivanovka. In the parish there are hardly any left. The Church as unnecessary was closed. He stood, closed almost 50 years.
In 1893 it was decided the parish in Volotovo to restore. In 1899 the parish Church was restored, and the temple after a long and careful restoration by architect Kamburova opened again. In 1907 Volotovsky the Church of St. Nicholas had once again closed, as the parish was small.
During the Soviet power the Church was closed and became dilapidated. Many were surprised, seeing an unusual Church.
In 1999 he was drafted a plan for its restoration, which took the organization "Projectresource". Newly opened and consecrated the temple was only in 2005. Since this is an active Orthodox Church.
