The Palace complex has Chowmahalla, located in one of the most famous cities of India – Hyderabad, was the official residence of the nizams (rulers) of Hyderabad state, which included the territory of today's States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. All the important ceremonies and celebrations were held in this complex.

The construction of this architectural masterpiece began in 1750, when the Nizam was Salabat Joong, but eventually was suspended. Construction resumed more than a hundred years later – in 1857, during the rule of the Asaf the Jah V, or as it is more commonly called Afzal ad-Dawlah, and continued until his death in 1869. Originally the territory of the Palace complex covered an area of 180 thousand square meters, but over time, this area has decreased, and as of today Chowmahalla is only 57 thousand square meters.

In Persian the word "chowmahalla" means "four Palace". Because of such a long period of creating this magnificent building is a unique mixture of architectural styles and trends. The complex has two huge courtyard size: South and North, where gardens and equipped with fountains. The oldest part was Chowmahalla is a southern courtyard, decorated in a neoclassical style. The buildings that surround it, is divided into four parts: the Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, TechNet Mahal and Aftab Mahal. The North yard was built later, and there was established the state "administration". This part of the complex designed in Islamic style with multiple domes, arches and Persian ornaments. Among the highlights was Chowmahalla appear on the clock Tower, Hall Councils, and the "heart" of the complex – Khilwat Mubarak, a huge hall for the ceremonies, decorated with 19 amazing chandeliers of Belgian crystal.
